Splashes of colour adorn the Dhigali kids club where they can literally run through the sprinkler.
Best of the Maldives: Halloween Party – Hideaway Beach
Happy Halloween!
When we moved to the UK in the early nineties, the British didn’t really celebrate Halloween. It’s since become a more popular holiday, but nothing on par with the USA where it is the second biggest celebration after Christmas. It’s sort of the dream kids holiday – they get to dress up and get free candy. Not wanting to deprive our own little ones of this annual ritual, we hosted our own quite spooktacular Halloween fun all through their childhood and became quite expert in these lavish affairs.
Many resorts will have a few decorations out today and a few sweeties on hand for the young’uns, but Hideaway Beach is the first resort I found that has assembled a comprehensive set of Halloween festivities with all the de rigeur traditions…
- Pumpkin Carving
- Creepy Mask Making
- A Spooky Movie
- Scary & Spooky Face Paint
- Trick or Treat Activities
- Fashion Show Costume Contest
Appropriately, Hideaway Beach is where we first (and only time) spotted a Ghost Pipe Fish (see photo below). Which make me think that if I could get to the Maldives for Halloween, I would go dresses as a Batfish (Batfish crazy!).
Best of the Maldives: Kids Salon – Finolhu
Best of the Maldives: Holiday Pirate Treasure – Six Senses Laamu
International Talk Like A Pirate Day today, but if you want to act like a pirate then avast ye’ these special programmes at Six Senses Laamu…
- “Twice a year during Easter and Christmas break we have many families with children visiting Six Senses Laamu. So twice a year we offer this excursion. It is a pirate themed trip that leaves at 10:00 in the morning and returns about 15:30. We have some scarfs, eye patches, foam swords, water guns, a treasure map and we make up a story. We take snorkel equipment along as well as children’s lunch. At the end the excursion leads to a “treasure” of sweets for the children. We usually have boys and girls between 6 and 13 years old and sometimes a parent comes along too. The price is USD 150++ (10% service charge & 12% GST)”
Blow me down and shiver me timbers!
Best of the Maldives: In-Ground Trampoline – Kandima
Best of the Maldives: Games Room – JA Manafaru
International Childrens Day today. Not to mention the beginning of half term in the UK schools. So something to keep the little one’s happiness enhanced wouldn’t be amiss. Like JA Manafaru’s game room packed to the brim with more games than I have seen in a resort including…
- Flight simulator with specialist handsets controls
- Full Driving simulator
- Big screen HD playstation
- Foosball
- Pool
- Ping Pong
- Mah Jong
- Chess
Mind you the collection is just a tempting to the kid in all of us.
Best of the Maldives: Kids Bike Carrier – Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru
For fatigue and sun protection, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru peloton of bikes includes a special child carrier for those who might just find pedalling up and down the sand trails a bit tiring (hmmm…I wonder if they have one big enough to hold me?
Best of the Maldives: Kids Climbing Wall – Canareef
I love pint sized versions of things. One of my favourite websites is Minimus.biz (at one point I was going to open up a European branch of Minimus). The Maldives itself is pretty much made up of pint-sized versions of islands. And, since the outset, I’ve always felt that the appeal of the destination for families with children was always unsung.
I was especially enchanted by Canareef’s mini climbing wall for the smallest tykes t the kids club. Too often the “big” kids get all the cool, adventure toys, while the little ones are stuck with colouring books. This wall is just right for the tiniest alpinists. And at over a meter high (!), they can boast having scaled the highest point on the island.
Best of the Maldives: Kids Greeting Treat – Four Seasons Kuda Huraa
Every arrival at a resort typically includes some special welcome treat. Anything from a fruit basket to gourmet delicacies, a bottle of wine to useful gifts or a ready-to-go cocktail. At Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, the younger set get just as colourfully and creatively constructed welcomes as the parents complete with custom chocolate name plate. Mind you, it might take hours of swimming to burn off the sugar rush!
Best of the Maldives: Lego Room – Soneva Fushi
Double day today – Chinese New Year and international Lego Day! Time to head to Soneva Fushi’s special Lego Room at its “The Den” kids club (more like kids “country club”). Suitably equipped to build the Lego construction below to mark the occasion.
