Always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn. Then be a unicorn.” And if you can’t be a unicorn, ride a unicorn. Especially, a magic rainbow unicorn.

Happy Thanksgiving! Time for the annual traditions of bloated birds and the Times Square procession of blow-up figures. The Maldives fashionistas display as wide a variety of balloon creatures as any Macy’s parade, but second only to the iconic pink flamingo is the ubiquitous Unicorn float. Best of the Maldives: Whale Shark Float – Rihiveli Dream

Rihiveli Dream - whale shark float

Black Friday today is the annual carnival of commercialism. The day after American Thanksgiving when all the families get together (“homecoming”) and have a Friday day off so they all go to the mall to get a jump on their Christmas shopping. For float aficionados, I had already added today’s feature to the resort Santa list. And now one lucky resort – Rihiveli Dream – finally features it. In fact, the whale shark float was the bequest of Maldives Complete and field correspondent Isley Lynn who stayed their this summer as a part of the artist-in-residence posting. Best Maldives Float Ever.

Best of the Maldives: W Retreat – Pool Float

W Retreat - float

Eid Mubarack! If you need to just lie down after all the feasting, then W Retreat offers literally the biggest armada of pool floats to lull you to a gently bobbing repose.

When we visited the Maldives with our children years ago, Lori and I would read by the pool while they splashed about (perhaps the very first beginnings of Maldives Complete was my research into which resorts had pools which the kids adored). If we had the W’s Canopy Float (see photo above), I could have enjoyed my reading in the pool rather than beside the pool. Especially with the sun-protecting canopy which keeps the light from being too harshly bright on the eyes while reading.

And if you want to make the biggest splash with a blow-up pink flamingo Instagram pic, the W has just introduced the largest in the Maldives, the mother of all pink flamingo floats (see below)…
